FIRST THING IS FIRST. If you've read any of the earlier parts of Pandora Hearts you are probably like oh Break he is that guy who trolls people. Which. Yes. But before he was XERXES BREAK he was KEVIN REGNARD.
Basically:
➠
His life trajectory was something like... KEVIN and then SAD KEVIN and then KILL LOTS OF PEOPLE KEVIN/THE RED EYED GHOST and then DESPAIRING KEVIN and then SUPER TOTALLY ANGRY KEVIN and then TOPPED BY LAINSWORTHS KEVIN and then KIND OF STIFF SLIGHTLY DERE BREAK and then XERXES BREAK~. Even with all those changes though he still remains super guarded and really terrible at asking for help and so forth. He's been referred to by Sharon as the "One Man Show" because he doesn't know how to fall in step with others -- and he tells Gil this when they fight together, adding that he might cut Gil down because he doesn't work well with others.
So! In Aather! Pride is more like Kevin than he is like Break. However he does still have Break's trolololol side, it's just kind of squashed down right now. And he does have some of Break's other ticks.
SECOND memories.
The memory I chose to start him off was a Kevin memory! Contextually it's after his master has died (annnnnd everyone else in the family except the little girl). And he's going off... somewhere. Canon doesn't say if this is before or after he made the contract to the White Knight but I am going to guess after, since before he's dragged into the Abyss Kevin kills 116 people. This is . . . I guess a high number for illegal contractors (who aren't Humpty Dumpty??). Anyway, he doesn't know much of that at all.
The only things he knows for sure was that she didn't want him to leave, "everyone was dead", she called his name and asked him not to leave and he left anyway.
What he felt was that she meant a lot to him, but the dead people meant more. He had . . . failed??? In some way. And he needed to leave. But it kind of tore him up on the inside to do so -- but in a resigned way. He had failed and then made some kind of terrible(???) choice.
The second memory is the second half of Kevin's terribad Abyss adventure. And it falls right in line with his first memory, hilariously. He goes to the Abyss so he can turn back time and bring his master back to life. Which . . . he doesn't know, on getting this memory. But he can feel the need from the first memory and the self-loathing and desperation :Db And fear and anger. And just general crazy and wtf.
These are interesting in combo! Because a good number of Break's memories are Break-memories, and not Kevin-memories, so after he's had a personality adjustment. Getting these too have sort of solidified his Kevinness at the moment. And he feels -- really strongly -- the sort of continuity of Bad Decision that he made.
Annnnd with these memories he understands the mindset/feeling of the person he is in them. When he gets his first Break-memory back it'll be really surreal because . . . well, Break is older and very different and so forth.
THIRD
Break is a pretty abrasive person. Even though he nikoniko trolls for a good part of the early PH he's also the one who calls people useless and mocks them and points out that Oz is a creepy twisted brat :'D He holds back everything and nothing in a lot of ways.
And as some people may have noticed HE IS SUPER CRANKY. Part of that is because he's been surprised and dump into this place and HE CAN'T SEE and there is this CRAP and people and buuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhg. He doesn't like depending on others or asking for help IT IS JUST HOW HIS PERSONALITY IS so this whole situation is like >:(
He's not as ANGRY ANGRY ANGRY as he was as ANGRY KEVIN though. There's a much calmer side to him, if you can get through the crankypants. And his dere is pretty damn dere. He also will capitulate to his trololol side if the elements are right. (Re: The Anansi Game, he totally couldn't help himself there) TERRIBLE SENSE OF HUMOR: intact.
Break's trololol side is also sort of like tsundere . . . trolldere? Because he uses his ~cheerful~ and kind of ~obnoxious~ behaviour to hold people at a distance and keep them where he wants, sort of relationshipwise.
Alsooooooo. Kevin was a knight in a household and basically spent all of his life serving the Sinclairs! And then even as Break -- who has a very different relationship with the Lainsworths -- he's still a servant. He takes that role very very well. It isn't really that he has a 'subordinate' personality, but it's a system he's used to. And will be inclined to understand and work better than not.
Right now he doesn't have any hang ups on doing "something" for "someone", but as he gains memories he will probably become very violently reactive against that idea. Kevin as a personality would do "everything" for his master. (Which in retrospect Break says was selfish and really just used as an excuse for himself, but!) He still has that feeling, right now. For other people, rather. The people he's dere for.
He does however have a hang up on accepting help and letting people know he is incapable of something. Part of it is definitely a pride issue. IF I PRETEND I AM BLIND NO ONE WILL KNOW AND I WILL BE COMPETENT IN ALL WALKS OF LIFE >:( And part of it is just being guarded.
I AM REALLY looking forward to juggling the Break and Kevin parts of his personality since hopefully he'll get them back in different orders and such :3c
FOUR
Break is a very GESTURE-Y person. He flops, he limp wrists, he prances and in general he fwips around. Kevin issssssssss not so much. Kevin is far more stiff and reserved in body language -- he's also far far far more honest.
So in Aather, as Pride, he's definitely going to start out more honest in body language -- and in personality. His expressions are more closely linked to how he's feeling. But he'll do a Break gesture every now and then, more out of body-habit than mental connection. . . . and then he'll be like wtf that's weird why did I do that.
Kevin is more concerned with being proper than Break is and it shows in his body language. Pride is neither, but he's certainly more comfortable being reserved and not making a spectacle of himself.
Until he gets back his navigating while blind skill, Pride is going to move pretty slowly. He's navigating mostly by memory and sound. So to go down the right team path he'll find a landmark and angle away from that landmark and count from there and so forth. Everything he does will be pretty careful until he gets more confident. I'll try to use a lot of action tags to help out with this d>:
I am always bad at these with no questions :|a So, I guess, if you have questions you can ask.
